What To Look For When Buying A Mini Cooper

 If this is your first time purchasing a Mini then you should know all the models of Mini.

Mini Cooper- The most fuel-efficient and basic gasoline engine.

Mini Cooper S- They took the base model and added a Supercharger/Turbocharger (depending on the year).

Mini Cooper S JCW- John Cooper Works is a factory installed tuning kit to get even more power out of your Mini.

Mini Cooper Clubman- An extended version of the Cooper. About 6 inches longer.

Mini Cooper Clubman S- A Turbocharged version of the Clubman. Also can come with JCW package.

Mini Countryman- A four door SUV version of the Cooper.

Mini Countryman S- Turbocharged Countryman. Not yet but soon to be JCW.

 The Mini was reborn by BMW in 2002 creating the New first generation MINI. There were only the three models; Cooper, Cooper S, and Mini Cooper JCW. The Cooper has 115HP and got about 38 mpg. The Cooper S has 163HP with 33 miles per gallon. The JCW jumped to 200HP and still has 30MPG under its belt. The S and JCW first generation are Supercharged.

 I am a proud owner of a 2003 Mini Cooper S. Mine has 58,000 miles on it and it still feels as new as the day I bought it. I get about 30-31 in town when I have the price of fuel in mind. Other wise full throttling it most of the time and slamming through the gears I get about 22 miles per gallon.

 The second generation Cooper has 118HP with 40 MPG. S model has 172 HP and 36 miles per gallon. The JCW has a whooping 208 horse power and still manages to get 33 miles per gallon. The Clubmans have the same engine as the regular coopers but slightly lower 0-60 times and miles per gallon being longer and heavier than the original.

 Now on to the Countryman. The base model has 121 horse power and gets 35 on the freeway. The S model has 181 HP and with its All Wheel Drive system it gets 31 MPG.

 I absolutely love these wonderful vehicles. I would own each one of these if I got the chance. They have personality and zing. They are reliable, fun, and get great gas mileage. They may not be the fastest cars in the world on paper, but when you get behind the wheel of one of these bad boys they sure do feel like it. The car feel very well made and it grips to the road like a Porsche. The JCW has earned a spot right next to cars like Ferrari and Lamborgini in my opinion.

Dog walk to the park

Over winter break I took my dog Dexter, out for a walk to Petrovitsky Park because it is only 15 minutes away from my house and I had nothing else better to do. I am sure that Dexter was aware of his surroundings because we have gone to Petrovitsky park numerous times. Today I did something different which was taking Dexter down to the baseball field at Petrovitsky Park even though I know I am  not supposed to. I wanted to test out to see what he would do on the field and thankfully he didnt go to the bathroom on it. My experience with Dexter exploring new grounds was that I can tell he was having fun by wagging his tail and rolling in the dirt because every thing was so new and exciting to him. Author Val Mallinson, an author and dog lover quotes, " They ( dogs) know the big wide world out there holds more wonder than they can possibly fit into their short dog lifetime....They (dogs) are right, there are marvels out there" (Mallinson 2). What I learned from that quote by listening to Val Mallinson is that she is correct and that I should take Dexter out to many "wonders" to him to explore because before I know it his life will end eventually.

Petrovitsky Park

Overall my experience taking Dexter to the local park and doing something new has taught me, that I should take Dexter onto different grounds once in a while so he can have fun instead of being cooped up inside.

Special Toyota Camry Set to Pace 2012 Daytona 500

Toyota Motor and Daytona International Speedway (DIS) announced today the all-new 2012 Toyota Camry will serve as the official pace car for next year’s DAYTONA 500®.



Toyota will showcase the new Camry -- the best-selling car in America for nine years running -- at Daytona in ‘The Great American Race,’ Feb. 26, 2012. The race annually kicks-off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.



“We’re thrilled to be able to feature the new Camry in Daytona at the season’s biggest race,” said Ed Laukes, TMS corporate manager of motorsports marketing. “We think the DAYTONA 500 is the perfect place to showcase the all-new Camry -- which will go on sale this fall. We knew when the opportunity arose to partner together with Daytona that it would be an extraordinary way to highlight our new Camry, as well as reinforce Toyota’s commitment to NASCAR and its fans.”







Camry went on sale in 1983 and since then more than nine million have been sold in the U.S. Camry has been the best selling car in America for 13 of the past 14 years.



This year marks the 25th anniversary of Camry production in Georgetown, Ky. Toyota began manufacturing the Camry in Georgetown in 1986 and the vehicle is now also built in Lafayette, Ind.



The 2012 Camry debuts a bold, sophisticated new design with a more spacious interior, improved driving dynamics and an even quieter ride than before. The new model features class leading safety, fuel economy and multi-media technology.

Speedway®, Nashville Superspeedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Phoenix International Raceway®, Richmond (Va.) International Raceway®, Wisconsin’s Road America and Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International®.



In 2004, Toyota began participating in NASCAR competition by fielding Tundras in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS). Three years later in 2007, Toyota began competing in the NSCS and the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) with the Camry.





Toyota has won three consecutive manufacturer’s titles in the NNS (2008-2010) with the Camry, and Toyota racers have earned one driver’s title (Kyle Busch in 2009) and registered 60 race victories in the NNS. In NSCS competition, Camry drivers have earned 36 first-place trophies.



In seven seasons participating in the NCWTS, Toyota has captured five consecutive manufacturer’s championships (2006-2010), and Tundra drivers have won driver’s titles with Todd Bodine (2006 and 2010) and Johnny Benson (2008), and have earned 88 race wins.



At Daytona International Speedway, Toyota drivers have recorded eight NASCAR wins across NASCAR’s three national touring series, including one NSCS win (Kyle Busch in 2008), two NNS wins (Denny Hamlin in 2008 and Tony Stewart in 2008) and five NCWTS wins. In 2008, Hamlin claimed Toyota’s first-ever NSCS victory in a non-points qualifying event to determine the Daytona 500 starting lineup.

Mia Electric to debut at Ecovelocity 2011

A new electric vehicle brand, mia electric, is set to hit UK shores next month when it showcases three variants of its innovative Microbus at this year’s EcoVelocity motor show (8th – 11th September).



Having been one of the highlights at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, this will be the first time these cars have been seen in the UK and the first opportunity for the general public to get behind the wheel and experience mia’s zero-emission urban mobility for themselves.







Head of UK sales at mia, Richard Deslandes, said “We’re delighted to be debuting our cars in the UK. To be launching our innovative approach to 100% electric zero-emission mobility in the shadow of the iconic chimney stacks of Battersea Power Station, in their day one of the largest producers of CO2 in the capital, seems very fitting.



“The mia has been designed with cities like London firmly in mind and we consider the UK as a priority market for us (alongside France and Germany). We’ve been overwhelmed by the response we’ve received since we launched in Geneva and now have 3000 confirmed orders. Production started in June and we will be producing 4000 vehicles this year to meet this initial demand. We hope to ramp up production at our factory in Cerizay, France, to a total capacity of about 14,000 by the end of 2012.”



Designed with UK cities in mind

The cars, which go on sale in the UK in the first quarter of 2012, were designed by the former head of design at Volkswagen, Murat Günak, and come in three configurations – the standard short wheelbase model and two extended models, the mia L and the mia box van.



Thanks to its light-weight design concept, the standard model weighs only 750kg (extended models weighs 759kg) giving it extremely economical power consumption and low running costs (approx £1.30 per 100 kms).



All three vehicles are powered by an 18kW electric motor at the rear of the car that gives a top speed of 68 mph (110km/h). A 120 to 130km range is available from the 12 kWh battery pack that comes as standard and the lithium iron phosphate batteries can be fully charged in five hours. This technically sound battery system is exceptionally safe and helps alleviate range anxiety by allowing “no memory effect” charging. This means the battery can be charged for short top-up periods with absolutely no adverse effect to the life of the battery. (e.g. a ten minute charge will give an extra 6km of range).



The standard short wheelbase mia has three seats in total, while the extended mia L has four. Instead of three back seats, as in the mia L, the mia box van features a cargo capacity of 1,500 litres.



The most conspicuous feature of all three variants of the mia is the central driving position which allows the driver to get in and out of the car on both sides. This seat arrangement provides the driver with a perfect view of the city traffic and the passengers at the back with plenty of legroom. It also gives the cabin a unique office-style layout that features a display with space to mount a tablet computer and iPod.



When discussing the philosophy behind the car, Murat Günak, explains “As a father of four I wanted to pursue a new, sustainable path towards environmentally-friendly mobility of the future. We started with a blank piece of paper and asked ourselves the same question over and over again: What does a customer really want to be mobile in the city? Our conclusion was a compact-yet-spacious microbus that’s well organized and single-mindedly focused on urban transportation.”



David Wilkie, the former design director at Italian styling house Bertone and now design partner at mia, said “Working on the mia project was like reinventing the car itself. It hasn’t been designed to look swoopy and fast, it’s designed to be practical and likeable. A lot of cars are derivatives of mainstream cars but this is all new and perfect for big cities. It will undoubtedly become harder, and maybe even illegal, to drive petrol cars in downtown urban areas, so electric city cars like the mia have enormous potential.”



The purchase price of the cars at £22,000 (after the Government’s £5,000 incentive subsidy) and all variants will be exempt from the congestion charge in London. The car and batteries come with three year warranties, with the option to purchase up to five years.
